Poster NCD Risk Factors in Life Course Approach

Description

The Kenyan HIV treatment program has grown exponentially with improved survival
among PLHIV. The four NCDs that account for the greatest number of comorbidities among
PLHIV are cardiovascular diseases, cervical cancer, depression and diabetes. The
comprehensive care clinic at Gertrude’s hospital has 1830 active clients as at May 2024,
with >1000 clients at risk of developing non-communicable diseases. Gertrude’s reported
70 clients having non communicable diseases in December 2023 and during routine
mortality audit, 24% of the deaths were attributed to unidentified NCDs thus prompting
active screening of PLHIV for NCDs.
